History

On November 6, 2022, a group of United Methodists gathered together at the Cy-Hope Alamo for All Saints' Sunday. The next week, they worshipped again and it became clear that a new church had been formed. Those United Methodists were officially chartered as Mosaic United Methodist Church on May 21, 2023. Mosaic United Methodist Church has become a place that strives to connect all people to experience and respond to God’s unconditional love. It’s a place that values inspiring inclusion, cultivating authentic community, and joyfully serving with our neighbors. Mosaic’s membership has grown by over 20% in the last year, and Mosaic has created new thriving ministries for kids, students, their families, adults, and our surrounding community.

Future

The physical, spiritual, and fiscal growth at Mosaic in the last year inspired our leadership to start asking one question: What’s next? Over the last several months, our leadership has continued to press into that question and have co-created a vision for our future alongside the power of the Holy Spirit. On this page, you will find our vision for how to take the mission and values of Mosaic United Methodist Church and transition them to a new, permanent home.

Our Steps

The Exploratory Team has carefully assessed the necessary land requirements to align with the values and vision of Mosaic UMC, ensuring they can effectively support our ministries and missions.

Requirements include:

  • 10- 20 acres to accommodate our vision for church and community, outside of the flood plain
  • Ideally within a 5 – 8 mile radius of the center point of our current members
  • Located on a major thoroughfare with good road visibility
  • Access to major crossroads in Cypress

The total facility requirement will be built in two Phases. Phase One should meet our requirements through 2029 based on our growth projections. When we achieve 70% capacity, with two services in our Phase One worship center, we will move to planning for our Phase Two facility.

Requirements for Phase One:

  • Facility size of approximately 24,000 square feet with worship space for 400 people
  • Dedicated areas for kids and students
  • 4 rooms for adult small groups and general meeting areas
  • Office area to accommodate staff hiring through 2027

We believe that God calls us to be in community with one another. We seek to create authentic community within our church and outside our walls.

Potential Community Outreach Ideas:

  • A building with an indoor play area
  • Multi-purpose rooms for classes, book clubs, Bible studies, etc.
  • A yard for open play space, concerts, movie nights, outdoor worship (sunrise service), potluck dinners, etc.
  • Adaptive playground and splash pad promoting our value of inclusion
  • Recreation area for basketball, pickleball, and volleyball
  • A safe walking trail for the community
  • Business partnerships to enhance our presence in the community
  • The community has possible rental opportunities for all the aformentioned spaces

Note: These ideas listed above and the graphic are just idea-generation as we seek to start thinking outside of the box for what church can look like in 2024 and beyond.

As we continue to grow, we anticipate exceeding the capacity of our 400-person worship center and foresee a growing need for additional adult small group meeting spaces. Our expansion plans will be guided by membership growth and supported by our growth projections.

This expansion will include:

  • Worship center for 800 people
  • Expansion of small group meeting rooms and build out of additional office space

“Friends, this is an exciting time at Mosaic United Methodist Church. It’s a joy to be your pastor and to get the privilege of helping us all lean into where God is calling us to go and who God is calling us to be. I ask that you consider supporting our Building Community campaign both with your continuous prayers and with your financial commitment. Let’s work together to be a church that includes, that creates community, and that serves others always. Thank you for your prayers and for your support!”
